Support Worker - Bowral Youth Refuge

  • Permanent, part-time 32 hours per fortnight
  • Must be available to work any shifts - weekdays, weekends and sleep over shifts
  • Based in Bowral, NSW
  • SCHCADS Level 3, hourly rates range from $30.49 to $32.70 depending on qualifications and experience

About the Service

Bowral Youth Refuge is a specialist homeless service for youth who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. The refuge operates 24 hours a day, seven days per week to provide safe and secure accommodation for youth.

The Role

The Support Worker will assist in all aspects of accommodation services for clients and will work in cooperation with the Case Management Team in the implementation of the clients' case plans. The key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Assisting in the entry and assessment of new clients
  • Providing a safe and welcoming environment for clients who live at, or are accessing the service
  • Undertaking a variety of tasks i.e. serving meals, supervising activities, transporting clients
  • Maintaining daily Communications Book and other documentation as required e.g. client records and case notes

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Appropriate Certificate or equivalent experience or currently undertaking tertiary study, in a related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work within the ethos and vision of St Vincent de Paul Society
  • Ability to use sound judgement and act appropriately in crisis and emergency situations
  • Current first aid certificate
  • An ability to maintain an ethical, yet non-judgmental, attitude towards residents and staff, and a commitment to this
  • Sound knowledge of WH&S legislation as it relates to the workplace.
  • Ability to work a rotating roster covering day, afternoon and sleepover shifts
